Residents of Weenen, South Africa, seriously dealt with a man, believed to be in his mid 30s, after accusing him of witchcraft. They said they beat him because there was no way he had good intentions after he went into someone else’s yard naked and smeared with white ash.
A witness said residents arrived on the scene after hearing home owner, Nculi Thusi, screaming.
“Residents came in large numbers and tied him up before beating the hell out of him,” said the witness, adding that the man refused to answer questions.
Noma Sikhakhane (28), a resident who arrived on the scene after the man was beaten, said the family looked scared and worried.
“They said they were worried because they didn’t know what exactly he was doing in their yard. They suspected he was involved in something evil,” “We suspect he was sent by someone who feared he would be recognised if he went on there himself,” she said.Noma added that the Thusi family was planning to consult a sangoma (native doctor) to find out what the man was doing in the yard.
The man was rescued by local cops. Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Shooz Magudulela said no case was opened.
