Dylan Furst, 25, from Washington, spent the weekend camping at Olympic National Park in Washington state, USA. On his way back in his Jeep, he waved goodbye at a bear and the jolly fellow returned the gesture. Furst said:
“I went to Olympic National Park to see the bears and to enjoy a weekend of camping. When I was leaving I said ‘goodbye bear!’ and waved at it, then he waved back.
I couldn’t believe it. I was no more than 10ft away from the bear, separated by a small wire fence. He didn’t seem threatening at all, and it was almost tempting to go up and hug him. “I thought he seemed very harmless, which seems to be the opposite when you are face to face with a bear. I truly believe these animals are harmless, we people just don’t know how to react and deal with them if we are confronted. He was very used to people.”
