Gaping Sinkhole Swallows Policeman On Duty After Heavy Rainfall In China. Photos

A policeman was pulled into a sinkhole as he tried to cordon off a bridge during heavy rainfall in China. He was stuck in the hole up to his armpits but bravely told fellow officers and members of the public to stand back. Many came to his aid, but the officer didn't want anyone else to be in danger so shouted at them to leave him.

The accident happened last Friday in Jianshi County in central China as a heavy rainstorm hit.

The storm was wreaking havoc across the area and officer Liu was called to cordon off a dilapidated bridge.

He managed to wiggle himself deeper into the sinkhole before finding an escape route in the bank of the river.
