This is how children put their lives on the line when going to school in
Atule’er Village in southwest China. With an elevation of over 1,400
meters and a perpendicular distance of some 800 meters from the ground,
it is home to 72 households. The villagers have to climb 17 vine ladders
along the cliff to reach the outside world, which have cost several
villagers’ lives already.
The kids have to climb these ladders to and back from school, with the escort of their parents, who take turns to do the job.
